Middle Eastern and Central Asian languages

Arabic, Farsi, Dari, Pashto, Turkish, Armenian and the languages of Central Asia and the Caucasus.

From the Caucasus to Afghanistan

The SILA Linguists® network spans the major languages of the region, including Arabic, Farsi, Turkish, Hebrew and Armenian, together with the core languages of Afghanistan: Dari, Pashto, Hazaragi and Pamiri. In the Caucasus we work in Georgian, Mingrelian, Chechen, Ingush, Avar, Abkhaz and Circassian; in Central Asia in Uzbek, Kazakh, Kyrgyz, Tajik, Turkmen and Uyghur. Balochi, Mazandarani, Gilaki, Luri, Syriac and Mandaic round out the list.

Dari from Kabul and Farsi from Tehran are mutually intelligible, but official vocabulary and everyday expressions differ, so we choose interpreters by the speaker's country of origin rather than by language label alone. These communities are well established in the UK, Germany, Sweden, Canada, the United States and Australia.

An interpreter for every setting

An asylum interview, a GP consultation or a home visit from a social worker usually calls for a face-to-face interpreter. When something is urgent, our telephone interpreters answer day and night, all year round, and video interpreting runs on our app or on the platform you prefer. Business negotiations, conferences and diplomatic forums are covered with consecutive, simultaneous or RSI interpreting, and we also provide community and escort interpreting. Many Afghan and Iranian women prefer a female interpreter at medical appointments: simply say so when you book.

Scripts, names and official documents

Arabic script for Farsi, Dari and Pashto, Cyrillic or Latin for the languages of Central Asia, and the Georgian, Armenian and Hebrew alphabets: our translators work confidently in each and transliterate names the same way every time. Tazkiras, passports, civil status records, diplomas and judgments receive certified translation with a signed statement of accuracy that UK courts, the Home Office, universities and employers accept.

Time-stamped interview transcription, subtitling, LADO language analysis and nationality assessment complete our support for immigration casework.

Sectors that depend on these languages

Our vetted, trained and qualified linguists in these languages can support asylum and immigration solicitors, courts, police, hospitals, mental health teams, schools and charities, as well as energy, engineering and finance groups operating in the Gulf, Türkiye or Central Asia. SILA Linguists® gives you a single project team, vetted linguists and confidentiality protected by NDAs and UK GDPR compliance.
