Hazaragi interpreters on site for appointments, hearings and meetings.
Hazaragi is the variety of Farsi spoken by the Hazara people of central Afghanistan and their communities in Pakistan, Iran and beyond. We provide Hazaragi interpreters for asylum, legal and healthcare settings.

hazHazaragi is a variety of Farsi, closely related to Dari, the form of Farsi used as an official language in Afghanistan. It is often listed separately from Dari. Its home is the Hazarajat, the mountainous central region of Afghanistan, and large Hazara communities live in Quetta in Pakistan, in Iranian cities such as Mashhad and Tehran, and in Europe, Australia and North America.
Hazaragi differs from standard Dari mainly in pronunciation, everyday vocabulary and some grammar. It contains a number of words of Turkic and Mongolic origin, and speakers who have lived in Iran or Pakistan often add Farsi or Urdu vocabulary. Whether it is described as a dialect of Dari or a language in its own right varies between speakers, and the name used by a client should be respected.
Hazaragi is mostly spoken rather than written. Literate speakers usually read and write standard Dari or Farsi in the Arabic-based script, although poetry, songs and social media posts in Hazaragi are increasingly common.

Hazaragi is the language of the Hazarajat in central Afghanistan, around Bamyan, Daykundi and parts of Ghazni, Uruzgan and Wardak, and of large Hazara communities in Quetta, Mashhad and Tehran. SILA Linguists® provides Hazaragi interpreters, translators and language analysts to immigration services, courts, healthcare and social care teams whether based in the UK, in North America, or in Australia and New Zealand. Many Hazara clients have spent years in Iran or Pakistan, so we ask for the home province and later places of residence before matching an interpreter.
A Dari interpreter can often get by with a Hazaragi speaker, but in asylum interviews, courts and mental health appointments the gaps matter. Local words, place names, Turkic and Mongolic loanwords and expressions can be misheard or flattened. When a client asks for Hazaragi, we book Hazaragi.
Our interpreters work face to face in asylum and immigration interviews, age assessments, tribunals, police stations, GP surgeries and schools. Telephone interpreting is available night and day, 365 days a year, and video interpreting runs from the SILA Linguists® app or any platform you already trust. Consecutive interpreting is standard, and simultaneous interpreting can be arranged for community meetings. A female or male interpreter is available, which is often requested in health and family cases, and our linguists treat accounts of persecution with care.
Hazaragi is mostly spoken. Literate speakers usually read and write standard Dari or Farsi in the Arabic-based script, so written material is normally translated into Dari, right to left, with Hazaragi wording where the client needs it.
Afghan documents such as the tazkira, school certificates and marriage records are issued in Dari and Pashto, and Iranian documents in Farsi. We provide certified translation with a signed and dated accuracy statement, accepted by UK authorities such as courts and tribunals, the Home Office and education providers, and by employers, keeping names and dates consistent across the bundle. Dari papers for authorities in the United States, Canada or Australia are certified to their rules, with NAATI-certified translation for Australia.
We transcribe Hazaragi interviews and recordings with time codes and a parallel English translation. SILA Linguists® also provides LADO, a specialist linguistic assessment of a person's likely place of origin, age assessment support and nationality assessment, where features of a speaker's Hazaragi and Dari can be evidence of where they grew up.
Our vetted, trained and qualified Hazaragi linguists can support immigration solicitors, tribunals, children's services and age assessment teams, NHS and mental health services, schools and colleges, and refugee charities, as well as resettlement programmes welcoming Afghan families and housing officers explaining tenancies to new arrivals. A named project manager coordinates your work, and our vetted linguists are bound by strict confidentiality terms and UK GDPR. Hazaragi interpreters can assist refugee hearings, resettlement services and clinics in Canada, the United States and Australia.
