Kyrgyz is a Kipchak Turkic language spoken in Kyrgyzstan, where it is the state language and Russian is an official language. Kyrgyz communities also live in China's Xinjiang region, in Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Russia, and a small community has lived in the Afghan Wakhan corridor.

Northern and southern Kyrgyz differ somewhat, with southern varieties showing more influence from Uzbek and Tajik. The literary standard is based on northern speech. Kyrgyz has a celebrated oral tradition, including the Manas epic.

How we help

Kyrgyz services

SILA Linguists®

Kyrgyz interpreters and Kyrgyz translation services by SILA Linguists®

Kyrgyz is the state language of Kyrgyzstan, home of the Manas epic, and is also spoken by communities in Xinjiang, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Russia and, in small numbers, the Afghan Wakhan corridor. SILA Linguists® provides Kyrgyz interpreters, translators and transcribers for immigration advisers, healthcare providers, schools, mining companies and other businesses in the UK, North America, Australia, New Zealand and beyond. Many people from Bishkek are fluent in Russian, while speakers from the south and rural areas are often more comfortable in Kyrgyz or Uzbek, so we always ask the client which language suits them.

Kyrgyz interpreting, in person and remotely

Northern and southern Kyrgyz differ, with southern speech showing more Uzbek and Tajik influence, and the literary standard is based on the north. We take that into account when we match a Kyrgyz interpreter to a family court hearing, a visa or immigration appointment, a GP consultation, a maternity check or a school meeting.

Face-to-face Kyrgyz interpreting is available where it suits the setting, and remote options make it quick to arrange: telephone interpreting at any hour, every day of the year, and video interpreting via the SILA Linguists® app or the platform you already use. For mining, investment and development meetings we provide consecutive interpreters, and conferences can be covered with simultaneous or remote simultaneous interpreting. If the client would rather use Russian, we supply a Russian interpreter instead.

Kyrgyz translation and certified translation

In Kyrgyzstan the language is written in Cyrillic with three extra letters, ң, ө and ү, and Kyrgyz speakers in China use an Arabic-based script. Official documents from Kyrgyzstan are often in Russian or bilingual, and we translate from whichever language appears on the page.

Our translators work on birth and marriage certificates, passports and residence documents, diplomas and transcripts, medical records, court papers, licences and commercial contracts. A certified Kyrgyz translation from us carries a signed statement of accuracy, accepted by UK authorities such as the Home Office, courts and universities, and by employers and international bodies. We also translate leaflets, consent forms and school letters into Kyrgyz for families who read Kyrgyz more easily than English or Russian.

Kyrgyz transcription and subtitling

We transcribe Kyrgyz audio and video, including recorded interviews, voice messages, meetings and research material, with time stamps and an English translation. Switches into Russian or Uzbek are labelled clearly, which makes the transcript dependable for solicitors and researchers alike. Training and information videos can be subtitled in Kyrgyz or English.

Settings for our linguists in Kyrgyz

Our vetted, trained and qualified Kyrgyz linguists can support immigration and family law practitioners, NHS and private healthcare, schools and universities, and companies in mining and business development. SILA Linguists® brings everything together under one project team, and every assignment is covered by confidentiality agreements and UK GDPR.
