Spanish is the official language of around twenty countries and one of the six official languages of the United Nations. SILA Linguists provides Spanish interpreters and certified translators for Spain and Latin America, covering legal, healthcare, immigration, conference and business work.
español
spaSpanish is the official language of Spain, Mexico, most of Central and South America, Cuba, the Dominican Republic and Equatorial Guinea, and a co-official language in Puerto Rico. The United States has one of the largest Spanish-speaking populations in the world. Spanish is an official language of the United Nations, the European Union and many other international organisations. The Spanish language academies of Spain and Latin America work together on shared dictionaries and grammar.
Spanish varies by country. Spain uses vosotros for informal 'you' in the plural, while Latin America uses ustedes; Argentina, Uruguay and parts of Central America use vos instead of tú. Vocabulary differs widely, for example for food, clothing, transport and everyday objects, and some words that are neutral in one country are rude in another. Within Spain, Spanish (often called castellano) coexists with Catalan, Galician and Basque.
In many Latin American countries, Indigenous languages are spoken alongside Spanish. A client from Guatemala, Mexico, Peru or Bolivia may speak an Indigenous language as a first language, such as K'iche', Mam, Quechua or Aymara.

Spanish is the official language of Spain, Mexico, most of Central and South America, Cuba, the Dominican Republic and Equatorial Guinea and co-official in Puerto Rico, and it is widely spoken across the United States. It is an official language of the United Nations and the European Union. SILA Linguists® provides Spanish interpreters, translators and transcribers to courts, police and solicitors, healthcare and mental health services, immigration practitioners, international organisations, businesses, tourism and universities, matched to each client's country.
Tell us the client's country of origin. Matching the interpreter's variety helps with vocabulary, idiom and trust, especially in mental health, child protection and legal settings, where a Colombian, Mexican or Spanish turn of phrase can carry different weight. If the client is from Latin America, we also check whether Spanish is their first language or whether an Indigenous-language interpreter would serve them better, and we can source that linguist too.
Our Spanish interpreters work in criminal and family courts, police stations, solicitors' offices, hospitals, mental health services and immigration appointments, in person or on the phone around the clock. Video sessions run in the SILA Linguists® app or the conferencing platform your team prefers. For international organisations, trade bodies and companies we provide Spanish conference interpreting, in the booth or remotely, alongside consecutive interpreting for negotiations, site visits and tourism events.
We write for your audience: European Spanish for Spain, a specific national variety when readers are in one country, or a neutral Latin American style for a broad regional audience. Dates, number formats, legal terms and forms of address are all adapted. We translate contracts, financial and legal documents, patient information, education materials and marketing, and localise websites, apps and e-commerce, with AI-assisted translation and human post-editing for large volumes.
Spanish and Latin American certificates, court rulings, degrees and transcripts are certified in English with a signed confirmation of accuracy, accepted by UK authorities such as immigration decision-makers, courts and universities, and by employers. Spanish records for US immigration come with a translator's signed certificate of accuracy. Spain's sworn translators are appointed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and many Latin American countries run their own public translator systems, so check the rules for documents travelling the other way.
Hearings, police interviews, research interviews and media in Spanish are transcribed with timings and an English text, noting the speaker's variety, and we subtitle films, e-learning and campaigns for Spanish or Latin American viewers.
Our vetted, trained and qualified Spanish linguists can support courts, police and solicitors, healthcare and mental health, immigration and asylum practitioners, international organisations and conference organisers, business, tourism and trade, and universities checking qualifications. SILA Linguists® provides one coordinator and Spanish linguists matched by country and sector, and information is kept private under NDAs and UK GDPR. Spanish interpreters can support US immigration courts and attorneys, hospitals, schools and businesses, matched to Mexican, Central American or Caribbean Spanish.
