Luxembourgish is the national language of Luxembourg, used alongside French and German. SILA Linguists provides Luxembourgish interpreting and translation for public communication, legal matters, finance and cultural projects.
Lëtzebuergesch
ltzLuxembourgish developed from the Moselle Franconian dialects of German and is now a standardised language in its own right. Luxembourgish law makes it the national language of Luxembourg and sets out the country's three administrative languages: Luxembourgish, French and German. Legislation is written in French, while Luxembourgish is the main spoken language among Luxembourgers and is widely used in schools, media and everyday life. Related dialects are spoken in nearby parts of Belgium, France and Germany.
Luxembourg is highly multilingual, and a large share of its residents and cross-border workers do not speak Luxembourgish, using French, German, Portuguese or English instead. Luxembourgish spelling has been revised in recent years, and an official language centre supports the standard.

Luxembourgish, Lëtzebuergesch, grew out of the Moselle Franconian dialects of German and is now a standardised language in its own right. It is Luxembourg's national language by law, alongside French and German as administrative languages, and related dialects are spoken in neighbouring parts of Belgium, France and Germany. It is the main spoken language among Luxembourgers. SILA Linguists® supports Luxembourgish for public bodies, finance, banking and legal firms, cultural and media organisations, schools and people dealing with citizenship and residence matters, across the UK, Canada, the United States, Australia and New Zealand.
Most Luxembourgish speakers also speak French and German, and often English, so interpreting is usually requested when someone wishes to use Luxembourgish: at public meetings, cultural events, in the media, or in sensitive personal conversations. In many professional settings French or German may be the expected language, so we ask the client which they prefer and can supply interpreters for all three.
Video and telephone interpreting are practical wherever the client is based, with video through the SILA Linguists® app or your platform and telephone interpreting available at any hour. For finance, banking and legal teams we provide consecutive and simultaneous interpreting, including remote simultaneous interpreting, for board meetings, fund launches and conferences in Luxembourg's multilingual business setting.
Official documents in Luxembourg are often in French or German, so translation projects may involve all three languages, and our team handles them together. Luxembourgish texts follow the current official spelling rules and use ä, é and ë correctly. Public information, marketing, cultural material and community communication are common reasons to translate into Luxembourgish, and we localise websites and campaigns for Luxembourg audiences.
For citizenship and residence matters, and for finance and legal work, we provide certified translations of civil records, corporate documents, contracts and court papers, with a signed statement of accuracy and completeness, accepted by tribunals, recruiters and other UK authorities. For use in Luxembourg, check whether a translation by a sworn translator there is required. AI-assisted translation with human post-editing is available for high-volume financial documentation.
Radio, television and online media in Luxembourgish are transcribed with time codes and translated into English, French or German, and we subtitle films, documentaries and public information videos.
Our vetted, trained and qualified Luxembourgish linguists can support public bodies and community services, banks, fund managers, law firms and insurers, cultural, media and publishing organisations, schools, and individuals handling citizenship or residence. SILA Linguists® coordinates multilingual projects through one contact and protects financial and personal data under NDAs and UK GDPR.
