Enlhet interpreters on site for appointments, hearings and meetings.
Enlhet, also called Northern Lengua, is spoken by the Enlhet people of the central Paraguayan Chaco. SILA Linguists can help arrange Enlhet interpreting and translation.
Enlhet
enlEnlhet belongs to the Enlhet-Enenlhet family, together with Enxet, Angaité, Sanapaná, Guaná and Toba-Maskoy. It should not be confused with its close relative Enxet (Southern Lengua): the two were once grouped together as 'Lengua', but they are distinct languages with different communities. Enlhet is spoken in the central Chaco, in the departments of Presidente Hayes and Boquerón, in an area that also includes the Mennonite colonies around Filadelfia and Loma Plata.
Enlhet remains in everyday use in many communities, and there is an active tradition of Enlhet-language education and publishing. Spanish, Paraguayan Guarani and, in some places, Low German (Plautdietsch) are used as contact languages in the region.

SILA Linguists® arranges Enlhet interpreters and translators for healthcare providers, schools, employers, labour advisers and organisations handling land and community consultation in the central Paraguayan Chaco. Our first check is simple: does the speaker use Enlhet or Enxet? The names are easily confused, and getting this right saves a wasted session. We generally work with an Enlhet and Spanish interpreter and add a second interpreter for English. Some Enlhet people work in the Mennonite colonies and may use Low German (Plautdietsch) or other German varieties, but we never assume this and always ask.
Video is the most practical way to reach linguists in the Chaco, using the SILA Linguists® app or a platform you already run, and telephone sessions can be arranged whenever they are needed. In health and legal conversations we recommend plain language and frequent checks on understanding. Employment and labour discussions, land consultations and school meetings are interpreted consecutively, and the client may ask for a female or male interpreter.
Enlhet remains in everyday use in many communities, and there is an active tradition of Enlhet-language education and publishing, with an established spelling used in schools and community publications. Our translators follow that spelling for health information, employment terms, school materials and consultation documents, after confirming who the readers are.
Official documents from Paraguay, such as identity cards, employment records and land papers, are issued in Spanish. Their certified English translations come with a signed accuracy statement, accepted by UK authorities such as courts, the Home Office and educational institutions, and by employers. We can also translate Spanish or English material into Enlhet for community review.
Spanish, Paraguayan Guarani and sometimes Low German are contact languages in the central Chaco, and recordings often contain more than one. Our transcribers label every language, add time codes and provide an English rendering, for research interviews, consultation meetings and education projects.
Our vetted, trained and qualified Enlhet linguists can support health services, schools and teacher-training programmes, employers and labour advisers, community consultations and land matters, and researchers in the Chaco. One SILA Linguists® coordinator handles each project, and every linguist is bound by a non-disclosure agreement and UK GDPR, keeping sensitive employment and land discussions private.
