Enxet interpreters on site for appointments, hearings and meetings.
Enxet, also known as Southern Lengua, is spoken by the Enxet people of the lower Paraguayan Chaco. SILA Linguists can advise on Enxet interpreting and translation.
Enxet
enxEnxet is a member of the Enlhet-Enenlhet family. It is closely related to Enlhet (Northern Lengua), and the two were historically grouped under the outside name 'Lengua', but they are separate languages. Enxet communities are found mainly in the department of Presidente Hayes, in the lower Chaco west of the Paraguay River.
Enxet communities have been involved in long-running land claims, and community organisations have worked to keep the language in use in schools and local life. Many Enxet people also speak Spanish and Paraguayan Guarani, and younger people in some communities use Guarani more than Enxet.

For land and legal matters, community consultation, healthcare and education in the lower Paraguayan Chaco, SILA Linguists® provides Enxet interpreting, translation and transcription. Enxet, also called Southern Lengua, is spoken mainly in the department of Presidente Hayes, west of the Paraguay River. It is closely related to Enlhet, and the two were historically grouped under the outside name 'Lengua', but they are separate languages. Many Enxet people also speak Spanish and Paraguayan Guarani, and some younger people use Guarani more than Enxet.
We take two steps before booking. First, we confirm that the person speaks Enxet rather than Enlhet. Second, we ask which language they actually prefer, since some Enxet adults are most comfortable in Guarani. A two-stage arrangement, with an Enxet interpreter working into Spanish or Guarani and a second linguist into English, is common and works well when planned.
Land, legal and consultation meetings involving whole communities need longer sessions and time for collective discussion before answers are given. Our interpreters are briefed to allow for this rather than pressing for quick replies. Remote video is usually the most practical option, on the SILA Linguists® app or the system you use, with telephone interpreting available at any hour for shorter matters such as health appointments.
Enxet spelling was developed for education and community use, but written materials are limited, so an audio version or spoken explanation is often a valuable addition to any translated consultation document, health notice or school letter. We advise on the right mix for each audience.
Paraguayan legal and civil records, including land titles and identity documents, are in Spanish. We certify their English translations with a signed declaration of accuracy, accepted by UK authorities such as courts, the Home Office and universities, and by international bodies and employers, and translate English reports into Spanish or Enxet when a community needs to review them.
Enxet communities have pursued long-running land claims, some of which reached the Inter-American Court of Human Rights, and recorded testimony and community meetings can become important evidence. Our transcribers produce time-coded Enxet transcripts with an English version, label any Spanish or Guarani, and flag unclear passages for review rather than guessing.
Our vetted, trained and qualified Enxet linguists can support lawyers and human rights organisations, community consultations, health services, schools and language programmes, and researchers. Each request is coordinated by one SILA Linguists® team, and every linguist signs a confidentiality agreement and works within UK GDPR, which matters when testimony concerns land, family and community history.
