Triqui interpreters on site for appointments, hearings and meetings.
Triqui is a small group of tonal Oto-Manguean languages from western Oaxaca, with large migrant communities in northern Mexico and the United States. SILA Linguists matches Triqui interpreters to the speaker's home variety.
Triqui
Triqui belongs to the Mixtecan branch of the Oto-Manguean family, with Mixtec and Cuicatec. Its homeland is in the mountains of western Oaxaca, around San Juan Copala, San Andrés Chicahuaxtla and San Martín Itunyoso, and the Copala, Chicahuaxtla and Itunyoso varieties differ markedly.
Triqui is known for its very complex tone system. Many Triqui families have migrated to Baja California, Mexico City and the United States, where they work in agriculture and other sectors.

SILA Linguists® provides Triqui interpreters and translators for courts, agricultural employers and labour rights organisations, immigration services, maternity and healthcare providers, and schools and child welfare teams. Triqui is a Mixtecan language of the Oto-Manguean family whose homeland is in the mountains of western Oaxaca, around San Juan Copala, San Andrés Chicahuaxtla and San Martín Itunyoso. Many Triqui families live in Baja California, Mexico City and the United States.
The Copala, Chicahuaxtla and Itunyoso varieties differ markedly, and matching requires knowing the speaker's home town, so the first question we ask is whether the client is from Copala, Chicahuaxtla, Itunyoso or elsewhere.
Triqui is often needed in legal and workplace settings, and many Triqui speakers, particularly women and older people, have limited Spanish. Relay through Spanish is common, with a Triqui-Spanish interpreter working alongside a Spanish-English colleague. We provide interpreters by video, on the SILA Linguists® app or your own platform, by telephone at any hour, and in person where linguists are local. Court hearings and workplace investigations are interpreted consecutively, and mothers attending maternity appointments can ask for a female interpreter.
Triqui is known for its very complex tone system. Its orthographies mark tone with numbers or diacritics, and they differ between varieties. Because written Triqui reaches relatively few readers, recorded audio in the right variety is often the most effective way to share workplace safety rules, labour rights information or health advice, and we produce such recordings alongside written translations.
Mexican birth certificates and identity papers are in Spanish. We translate them into English and certify each translation with a signed statement of accuracy, accepted by UK authorities such as courts, the Home Office and universities, and by employers. Spanish-language Oaxacan documents filed with US immigration come with a translator's signed certificate of accuracy.
Recorded interviews and evidence in Triqui are transcribed with time codes and an English version by transcribers who know the variety, and tone-related ambiguities are flagged. Place names from the Copala and Chicahuaxtla areas are checked against established spellings. Where an asylum case turns on a person's origin, language analysis for the determination of origin (LADO) can be arranged.
Our vetted, trained and qualified Triqui linguists can support courts and solicitors, agricultural employers and labour rights groups, immigration services, hospitals and maternity units, schools and child welfare teams. SILA Linguists® keeps one coordinator on each case, and every linguist is bound by an NDA and UK GDPR. Triqui interpreting is available for American courts, immigration attorneys, health clinics and schools, with the Copala, Chicahuaxtla or Itunyoso variety matched where possible.
