Nivaclé interpreters on site for appointments, hearings and meetings.
Nivaclé is one of the larger Indigenous languages of the Paraguayan Chaco, also spoken in northern Argentina. SILA Linguists can arrange Nivaclé interpreting and translation support.
Nivaclé
cagNivaclé belongs to the Matacoan family, together with Maká, Chorote (Manjui) and Wichí. Most speakers live in Paraguay, in the departments of Boquerón and Presidente Hayes, including communities along the Pilcomayo River and near the town of Filadelfia; a smaller number live in the province of Salta in Argentina. The older name Chulupí is still found in some documents but Nivaclé is the community's own name.
The language is in strong use in many communities, with schooling, church services and radio in Nivaclé. Speakers commonly also use Spanish and, in some places, Paraguayan Guarani.

SILA Linguists® supports healthcare providers, schools, community consultations and legal and identity advisers with Nivaclé interpreting, translation and transcription. Nivaclé belongs to the Matacoan family, with Maká, Chorote and Wichí. Most speakers live in Paraguay, in Boquerón and Presidente Hayes, including communities along the Pilcomayo River and near Filadelfia, and a smaller number in Salta, Argentina. The older name Chulupí still appears in some documents, but Nivaclé is the community's own name and the one we use.
Nivaclé is in strong use in many communities, with schooling, church services and radio in the language. Many adults also speak Spanish, and in some places Paraguayan Guarani, but Nivaclé is often preferred for health, family and legal discussions, where a person needs to explain themselves fully.
Relay through Spanish is the usual approach. We make sure both stages, Nivaclé to Spanish and Spanish to English, are covered by experienced interpreters, and we allow extra time so that nothing is compressed or lost. A short briefing for both interpreters before the session, covering names, dates and key terms, keeps the two stages aligned. Remote video, on the SILA Linguists® app or the platform you prefer, is the practical way to reach Nivaclé linguists in Paraguay or Argentina, and telephone sessions are available at any hour. Identity appointments and community consultations proceed consecutively, and a female or male interpreter can be requested.
Nivaclé has an established spelling in the Latin alphabet and a substantial body of educational and religious material. Our translators confirm whether Paraguayan or Argentine conventions should be followed, and then translate health information, school materials, consultation documents and community notices from English or Spanish, or translate Nivaclé texts into English.
Official documents from both countries are issued in Spanish. Our certified English translations of identity papers and civil records carry a signed accuracy statement, accepted by UK authorities such as courts, the Home Office and universities, and by employers.
Because Nivaclé is used on the radio and in schools, there is a steady flow of recorded material: broadcasts, lessons, interviews and community meetings. We transcribe these with time codes and an English or Spanish version, labelling passages in other languages, and can produce subtitles for educational video.
Our vetted, trained and qualified Nivaclé linguists can support healthcare programmes in the Chaco, schools and teacher-training projects, community consultations, legal and identity advisers, churches and researchers. SILA Linguists® gives each project one coordinator, and all linguists sign non-disclosure agreements and work within UK GDPR.
