Hejazi Arabic is spoken in the Hejaz, the western region of Saudi Arabia that includes Jeddah, Mecca and Medina. It differs noticeably from the Najdi Arabic of central Saudi Arabia.
حجازي
acwHejazi Arabic is the everyday speech of western Saudi Arabia. An urban variety, spoken in cities such as Jeddah, Mecca, Medina and Taif, is distinguished from Bedouin varieties spoken by tribal communities of the region. The urban speech has long been shaped by the pilgrimage cities' diverse populations, with influence from Egyptian, Levantine, Turkish, South Asian and other sources.
Hejazi pronunciation and grammar differ from Najdi Arabic. For example, in urban Hejazi the letter ق is usually pronounced as g and ج as j, and some vocabulary is shared with Egyptian Arabic. Speakers understand Najdi and Gulf Arabic easily, and many shift towards a more general Saudi speech in formal settings.

Hejazi Arabic is the everyday speech of western Saudi Arabia: the cities of Jeddah, Mecca, Medina, Taif and Yanbu, and the Bedouin communities of the region. Urban Hejazi has been shaped by centuries of pilgrims and settlers and shares some vocabulary with Egyptian Arabic. SILA Linguists® provides Hejazi Arabic interpreters and translators for private hospitals, universities, sponsored student programmes, investors and law firms in Britain, North America, Australia and New Zealand, and we prioritise a Hejazi or western Saudi interpreter whenever detail matters.
Most Saudi clients are understood by any interpreter familiar with Saudi speech, but in a detailed consultation or a legal meeting, small differences count: in urban Hejazi the letter ق is usually pronounced g and ج as j, unlike Najdi speech. Tell us if the person is from the Hejaz and we will match accordingly.
We provide face-to-face interpreting at private hospitals and clinics, university welfare and admissions meetings, solicitors' offices and family hearings. Telephone interpreting is open day and night, all year round, and video interpreting runs through the SILA Linguists® app or the client's own system. Same-gender interpreters are often requested for healthcare and family matters, and we arrange them as standard. Business meetings and conferences can be supported with consecutive or simultaneous interpreting.
Saudi official documents are written in Modern Standard Arabic and often use the Hijri calendar, sometimes alongside Gregorian dates. Our translators convert dates carefully and keep the original. We translate medical reports, referral letters, academic transcripts, sponsorship letters, family records, powers of attorney and commercial agreements.
Every certified translation includes a signed statement of accuracy, accepted by UK authorities, universities and employers. For companies addressing Saudi consumers we localise websites, apps and campaigns in natural Saudi Arabic.
We transcribe Hejazi Arabic interviews, recorded meetings and evidence, timed line by line, with an English rendering, and our transcribers note dialect features that set Hejazi apart from Najdi or Gulf speech. Lectures and training videos can be subtitled in Arabic or English for sponsored students and their institutions.
Our vetted, trained and qualified Hejazi Arabic linguists can support medical travel and private healthcare, universities and sponsored student services, business and investment, and legal and family practitioners. One SILA Linguists® team coordinates Hejazi Arabic bookings, and Saudi families' privacy is protected by non-disclosure agreements and UK GDPR. Where a patient's treatment spans several weeks, we try to keep the same Hejazi interpreter with the family, so the patient, relatives and clinicians build a trusted working relationship.
